University of Kent
Overview
 

The University of Kent received its royal charter in 1965 and was one of seven new campuses founded in England in the sixties. In 2000 the University of Kent at Medway, in Chatham, was opened, although most provision for international students remains in Canterbury. Kent also validates degrees run at its associate colleges: Canterbury College, Mid-Kent College, and South Kent College.

Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities encompasses the following schools and faculty centres:

  • The School of Architecture

  • The Centre for Medieval & Early Modern Studies

The Faculty has confirmed its position as one of the leading Humanities faculties in the UK in RAE 2008. The School of History was ranked 2nd, French was ranked 7th, Drama and Film Studies were ranked 12th and English was ranked 18th. The Faculty has an extensive regional agenda and validates programmes ranging from arts and creative studies to construction at South Kent College, West Kent College and Mid Kent College.

The Faculty of Sciences comprises of the following schools and faculty centres for research:

The Faculty has close relations with the new Kent Science Resource Centre at Kent Science Park. The Faculty validates the foundation degrees in Life Science, Laboratory Technology and Bio-manufacturing at Mid-Kent College.

The Faculty of Social Sciences encompasses the following schools and faculty centres:

Location
 

The University is built in 300 acres of parkland, on a campus that overlooks the city of Canterbury, 20 minutes walk or a bus ride away. Modern buildings are surrounded by open green spaces, courtyards, gardens, ponds and woodland. There is easy road and rail access to London, 56 miles away, and to continental Europe. In 2000 the University of Kent at Medway, in Chatham, was opened, although most provision for international students remains in Canterbury.
