Brunel University
Overview

Brunel University, established in 1966, is named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a famous Victorian Engineer and one of the UK’s most well known historical figures. In adopting Brunel’s name, the university sought to emulate his qualities: ingenuity, rigour and creativity combined with practicality and thoroughness. Brunel currently has over 13,000 students, including an international student community of almost 2,000 students from over 110 countries. Around 3,000 students at the university are studying at postgraduate level.

Academic Strengths

Brunel is a research-led university and its courses focus on technology and design (for which it has one of the highest rated courses in the country) , pure and applied sciences, education, business and social sciences (including law, economics and management), humanities, visual and performing arts, sport sciences, health and social studies. The University has consistently performed well in the UK government's teaching and research assessment exercises and a large number of departments achieved the high grades of 4 and 5 in the UK government's most recent Research Assessment Exercise.

Location

Located in Uxbridge, West London, Brunel’s campus is covered by the London public transport network, making it easy to travel into Central London from the campus, but also handy to explore historic UK locations like Windsor and Runnymede. It is also the nearest University to Heathrow Airport (though it’s not under the flight path). The campus has been recently refurbished at an approximate cost of £250 million, boasting excellent academic space, modern, affordable halls of residence (90 % which are on-suite), world class sporting facilities and a range on campus shops and food outlets.
