The University of Leicester is one of the older universities in the country. Founded in 1921, it gained full degree-awarding powers in 1957 when it was granted its Royal Charter. The University is now the UK's leading provider of taught postgraduate education. University of Leicester is one of the older universities in the country, founded in 1921. It has a long tradition of welcoming international students and currently has over 1,000 from around 100 countries.

 
Academic Strengths
 

It is in the top 20 UK universities, has an AMBA-accredited MBA and the only 5* Genetics Department in the UK. Other top-rated departments include Economics, Engineering and Law. University teaching, laboratory and computing facilities are first class and include main and specialist libraries and state-of-the-art laboratories in engineering, biological sciences and chemistry. The University also hosts the UKAFF national supercomputer for astrophysics research. Leicester is centrally located, seventy-five minutes from London by train. It is a cosmopolitan, friendly city, and is the UK’s first Environment City, with many green spaces and surrounded by countryside. Leicester offers cafes, bars, museums, theatres, concert halls, an annual comedy festival, great spectator sport and regular cultural festivals.
