MIGRATION
|

| |
The Skilled Migration Program is an official Government initiative to overcome
skill shortages within the Australian workforce and to identify individuals who
can make a valuable contribution to Australia’s economy. Skilled Migration is
one of the best ways of gaining entry to Australia. This program is for people
who are not sponsored by an employer. Under the Australian skilled immigration
program, skilled migrant and skilled worker applicants who are over 18 and under
45 years of age can use their qualifications, work experience and language
ability to satisfy Australian immigration requirements and live and work in
Australia. Besides Australia's skilled migrant program, professional business
owners, senior executives and people with close family members in Australia are
also eligible to emigrate to Australia.
Each Australian skilled migration category has different requirements for entry
to Australia. Besides meeting the basic immigration requirements you must pass
the points test.
There are a variety of other migration programmes for Australia which are
outlined below:
|
| |
Employer Sponsored Workers
Australian and overseas employer can sponsor foreign nationals with
recognised skills seeking to work in Australia. They can employ them on a
temporary or permanent basis. Temporary Visas can lead to permanent Visa in the
long run.
|
| |
Business Skills Migration
Successful and well-qualified business people can migrate to Australia under
this category. A provisional four year temporary business visa is granted and
then after satisfying evidence of a specific level of business activity of
investment, the candidate is able to apply for a permanent residence Visa.
|
| |
Doctors and Nurses
There is currently a shortage of doctors and nurses in Australia, particularly
in regional areas. General practitioners or specialists can apply for a visa to
work in Australia if they have obtained their primary medical qualification in a
country other than Australia or gained their medical qualifications in Australia
and are not an Australian permanent resident. Nurses are currently in high
demand in Australia with opportunities for permanent and temporary work
available.
Doctors can apply for either a temporary or a permanent visa. For immigration
purposes, doctors seeking permanent residency in Australia must hold full
medical registration. Doctors who wish to practice in Australia must first be
registered with the Medical Board in the State or Territory where they intend to
practice. After the visa is granted, doctors must apply to the Health Insurance
Commission for a Medicare Provider Number if they will be working in general
practice or will be prescribing drugs.

| |
Regional Employment
The Australian Government is working closely with state, territory
and local governments, and regional authorities to provide regional
migration programmes that support regional development and help
supply the skill needs of regional employers. These programmes are
designed to address the special circumstances of rural and regional
Australia. The programmes aim to attract young, skilled, English
speaking migrants to areas of Australia where they are most needed.
Generally, skilled migrants are under 45 years of age, have
functional English, diploma level qualifications or above and
relevant work experience.
